We’re nearly at the end of 2015 & I thought I’d give you all a little life update 🙂
December was a really lovely month – I graduated with a Masters in Creative Writing! The ceremony was a little bit quieter than last time which was good because I was less nervous ha! There weren’t as many people & we graduated in the auditorium rather than the chapel. It was a lovely day – the sun even managed to come out! – and it started quite early as we had to be at the university by 8am. After a tea in the cafe, I went to get gowned up & have my photographs taken.
Last time I graduated, most of my family came but this year, I was only limited to 2 tickets to the ceremony itself. It was also so close to Christmas & lots of people were working so my mum & sister had the 2 tickets. We had a lovely meal afterwards (which I didn’t get any pictures of as I unfortunately dropped & smashed my phone!) & it was so nice to spend time with the ladies of the family.
I never would have dreamed that I would end up with a Masters of Arts degree. I hadn’t even thought about doing one while I was doing my first degree – I wasn’t even sure I was capable of doing one! It was an incredibly intense year but one that I won’t forget & one that has shaped my writing so much more than I thought it would. It was an honour to receive guidance from such wonderful tutors who are masters of their craft.
My point is this: don’t ever think you can’t. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Do whatever your heart tells you is right – it’s so cheesy but so true! And if you’re going through chemo right now, keep looking to the future & tell yourself that you will get there someday.
I got there. Even if I did have to take my heels off to walk back to the car- hehe!
I hope you’re all doing okay,
And don’t give up,
